Chow Chows - Breed Characteristics
People often misunderstand Chow Chows. The breed is very specific and is not for everyone. Those who want to purchase a dog should consider all the advantages and disadvantages of owning a Chow Chow. The breed is said to be aloof most of time. It can be reserved even with its owners. Generally, the Chow Chow is a one-man dog. However, it is good with other family members too. The breed does not tolerate inappropriate treatment. It tends to be stubborn, which should be managed by the means of continuous training and a lot of patience. In no way should a Chow Chow be beaten or punished in a severe way. This will lead to misunderstanding and even aggressiveness.

Chow Chows - Training
Chow Chow's dominance is a challenge for mild people. The breed is said to have a mind of its own and will not easily accept training. The breed is intelligent; yet pleasing the owner is not a priority for a dog. A Chow Chow needs consistent training from an early age.
Starting too late is a common mistake owners make when dealing with Chow Chow dogs. Chow Chows are usually very quiet as puppies. It seems there will be no misbehavior on their part when they are full-grown. Nevertheless, Chow Chow puppies are likely to grow into disobedient and willful adults if not trained from an early age. Therefore, it is recommended to explore the breed's specifics prior to buying a dog and decide if one is capable of managing it.
Chow Chows - Care
Chow Chow dogs need much grooming. It is advised to brush a dog no less than two times a week. Brushing is important to keep the dog's coat neat. Pay particular attention to a shedding coat. Do not allow the hairs to mat, for it will be hard to brush them out. Keep in mind that the nails should be also trimmed. Chow Chows are best in a spacious yard.
